GPK FROM PERU
Peru released a version of Garbage Pail Kids referred to as both LA PANDILLA BASURA and THE GARBAGE that is one of the most rare foreign releases produced
Peru released a total of two Garbage Pail Kids Series in the 80s and 90s. Referred to as both La Pandilla Basura for Series 1, and The Garbage for Series 2, these releases are extremely rare.
Series 1, that was released in 1989, contains a total of 208 stickers and uses the La Pandilla Basura banner. Roughly translated, 'La Pandilla Basura' means 'The Trash Gang' in English.
Series 2 was released in 1991 and was a much smaller set, requiring only 80 stickers to complete the set. This set also dropped the 'LPB' banner in favor of the traditional 'Garbage Pail Kids' banner.
Both Series releases were accompanied by albums to put the stickers in.
Below are pictures and information of the Peruvian Garbage Pail Kids releases, most of which are extremely rare and hard to find.
Examples of stickers from the Peru Garbage Pail Kids releases are pictured below. The combination of the skull and 'The Garbage' on the back of the Series 2 has resulted in it being a favorite amongst collectors. Definitely a unique design that isn't seen in any other foreign releases.
Examples of wrappers from the Peru Garbage Pail Kids releases are pictured below. The image below is believed to be the wrapper from Series 1, but to date no one has ever been able to track one down. I have cleaned this image up quite a bit (as well as the album images below) in hopes that it assist collectors in knowing what to look for.
A popular inclusion in foreign Garbage Pail Kids releases is an album to put the cards and stickers in. The albums from Peru are difficult to find in good condition, and are often full of rips, tears, and marks. Below are the albums from the Peru Garbage Pail Kids releases:
Below are scans of a FULL Series 2 album from Peru, meaning these pages have every sticker placed in the appropriate location. The images of the Garbage album below were graciously provided by Steve Grin
Peru released two different series back in the late 80s/early 90s. Below is a timeline that provides a glimpse at not only when a particular series was released, but also how many stickers were included as part of that release.
