MY HISTORY WITH GARBAGE PAIL KIDS

I first started collecting GPK back in 1985, but due to parental influence and a frustrating lack of legal tender, I was never really able to obtain a good collection. In 1986 and 1987, when Topps released their 3rd through 9th series, I really started to expand my collection. I remember saving my money, and buying as many packs as I could afford at my local Osco Drug…and then trading them with kids in my neighborhood or at school. Put simply - I was hooked. Then, as I grew older, and other interests started to creep into my life, I put my collection in a box - and that box went into the basement. Device

However, even though my GPK were out of sight, they were not out of mind, and I found myself flipping through them on occasion when I wanted to stroll down memory lane. Each time I did, the images on the cards warped me back to a simpler time - a time where life was 'stress-free'…a time when the big questions were who's house we were going to after school, or what movie we were going to see on Friday night. It was my own time-machine, and I loved each journey it took me on.

Warp ahead 35+ years and I find myself happily married, with 3 kids, 2 dogs and a wonderful house…yet I still get that same wave of nostalgia each time I flip through the cards. Starting in late 2005 I set out to complete my Master Collection, striving to obtain every card ever printed…every variation available…every GPK item I could put my hands on. Without the internet, this would not be possible…but through eBay and forums, etc I have been able to take my collection leaps and bounds beyond what I ever thought possible. So please, feel free to browse through my collection that has taken, in a sense, most of my life to complete. Hope you enjoy!!

GEEP Marketing

Discovered deep in the bottom of the Garbage Pail, Geep has been happily rotting away since the 80s, just waiting to have his day. And even though the years have taken a toll on Geep...leaving him with a number of different ailments, injuries, and abnormalities...it hasn't put a damper on his mood. He's happy as can be, and thrilled to call GeePeeKay his home.

You will find him roaming various pages of the site, popping up on social networks to help with updates, and basically serving as the handsome spokesperson for GeePeeKay. The ’Marketing Manager’ if you will!

THE KEEPERS Maintenance & Security

Because GeePeeKay.com is the home to so many awesome pictures, and so much important information, it needs someone looking after it. Well rest assured, because GeePeeKay has not one but THREE people looking after it! Rarely seen, and spending most of their time hiding in the darkest corners of the database, the Keepers keep all that kickass data safe, clean, and up-to-date for collectors.

Grodee (the oldest of the siblings) keeps the site maintaned. The Key Master (the youngest) is in charge of security...keeping everything safe. And Page? Well, let's just say she's the boss.

MY INTENTIONS FOR THIS SITE

Because I take a lot of pride in my collection - and since I get so much enjoyment out of it - I decided I really wanted to display it so I can look at it whenever I want. The problem is, I don't have the space to display all of my items - nor do I want to set aside an entire room in my house as a 'GPK Shrine'…that just seems to be taking it a little too far. That's when it hit me - I have a fairly decent digital camera…and a good-enough computer…why don't I put some pictures on the web? So, I started uploading a few pictures and was instantly aware that I was only scratching the surface. Wasting little time - I began creating pages and taking pictures like a crazed person, and I began to realize I was going to need more 'room'. So, I purchased this domain, started building my site, and the rest is history.

This site is constantly evolving and adding new pictures and information. The goal is to make it the most complete awesome kick-ass reference website for Garbage Pail Kids collectors both new and old. I make a concentrated effort to keep this site up-to-date, as well as utilize all the Internet has to offer. You will find GEEPEEKAY on a number of different social networking platforms...and I'm constantly trying to find new ways to keep fans of GPK abreast of the latest news in the hobby.

SITE DESIGN

Regular visitors will instantly notice that there's something new going on here! Over the years this site has enjoyed FIVE major design styles (counting the one you reading this on now!). What started out with a few frames and pages has ballooned into over 400 pages. Each layout I have worked with over the years has been designed to not only provide collectors with a handy resource, but also to try and make it as current as possible in terms of web design/etc. This new layout offers a number of advantages over the previous design, including (but not limited to):

  • RESPONSIVE DESIGN Responsive web design provides an optimal viewing and interaction experience (easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling) across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones). Fonts and pictures will automatically resize meaning no more blurry webpages!
  • ANIMATIONS fun and informative animations are waiting for visitors on hundreds of pages throughout the site
  • MOBILE/RETINA OPTIMIZED adjusts to the highest resolutions possible for a pleasant reading experience on portable devices
  • TOUCH/SWIPE SUPPORT no more hunting for directional-arrows...just swipe your finger (or mouse) to navigate galleries and more!
  • UPDATED MENUS quick-response dropdown menus get you to the content you are searching for much faster than before
  • AND MUCH MUCH MORE... I have made countless updates under-the-hood, cleaned up thousands of lines of code, added descriptions, pictures, and more...basically all the puke, blood, and snot will now look stunning on any device! What are you waiting for...START BROWSING!

And just for fun, here's a few screenshots that illustrate the progression of geepeekay.com through the years...
