WHAT ARE 'VARIATIONS'
- Variations are differences in the Cheap Toy figure molds. It is important to keep 'variations' separate from 'inconsistencies' or 'anomalies'.
- To be considered a true variation, it is necessary for the difference to be documented a number of times, by a number of different collectors.
- ALL of the variations detailed on this page have been discussed, researched and documented. They are in fact 'agreed-upon' variations.
ARE VARIATIONS MORE VALUABLE?
- After documenting a number of collections over the years, it has become clear that certain variations are indeed more rare than others, however at this time, that does not equate to a higher monetary value.
- Also of note, there is not a large amount of the collecting community who are actively trying to obtain a complete 'variation set', so the specific variation is rarely even mentioned during sales or trades.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF VARIATIONS
- While it remains unclear what the exact cause for the variation is, what IS clear is that for each Series 1 Cheap Toy sculpt, there are at least two different variations. These are referred to either as 'sculpt' variations, or 'copyright' variations.
- SCULPT variations are generally a bump or section of the sculpt that differs from one figure to another.
- COPYRIGHT variations involve an inconsistency in how the copyright stamp was placed on the figure.
